NCCI, Insurance Information Institute Webinar to Explore COVID-19 Impact

Thursday, July 16, 2020 | 0

The National Council on Compensation Insurance and the Insurance Information Institute will host a webinar July 23 exploring the impact COVID-19 is having on workers’ compensation systems throughout the country.

The pandemic could result in changes to how work is done, where it is performed, what jobs will remain and which ones might be eliminated. At the same time, policymakers in some states are calling on the insurance industry to provide work comp benefits for people in specified jobs who are presumed to have contracted COVID-19 through work.

The webinar will include a demonstration of NCCI’s COVID-19 Hypothetical Scenarios Tool to address frequently asked questions about the factors that will likely drive workers' compensation costs. The tool uses assumptions for rates of infections, hospitalizations and fatalities that provide a range of potential impacts the disease will have on individual states and certain jobs.

NCCI’s Sean Cooper, practice leader and senior actuary, and Jeff Eddinger, senior division executive, will participate in the webinar with Dr. Steven Weisbart, senior vice president and chief economist for the Insurance Information Institute. Mark Friedlander, director of corporate communications for the Insurance Information Institute, will moderate.

The webinar is from 2-3 p.m. Eastern July 23.
