A firefighter who jumped from his bunk after a nightmare is not entitled to benefits for the foot fracture he sustained because the injury’s cause was “idiopathic,” or personal to him, Arkansas’ 4th Division Court of Appeals decided Wednesday.
Shawn Seth Hansen, 33, was an emergency medical technician and firefighter for the city of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He worked 24-hour shifts that required him to stay at the firehouse whenever he wasn’t out on a call.
