The owner of California's Great America theme part in Santa Clara faces a $70,200 fine after a mechanic was struck by a roller coaster car while trying to retrieve a cell phone from a restricted area. California's workplace safety regulatory agency, commonly called Cal-OSHA, said amusement park owner Cedar Fair Southwest failed to institute safety procedures to ensure roller coasters were shut down before employees attempt to retrieve lost articles near them.
