The co-owner of a Baton Rouge pain clinic has pleaded guilty to conspiring to receive $336,000 in kickbacks from a drug testing laboratory in exchange for referring urine tests, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Louisiana announced Wednesday.

Dr. Gray Wesley Barrow, 58, admitted the he sent urine specimens collected from patients receiving treatment at the Louisiana Spine & Sports clinic and received a percentage of reimbursement paid to the unidentified laboratory by health benefit programs, including Medicare, the office said.

Barrow admitted during a hearing before U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson that he sent urine specimens to the laboratory from April 2014 to July 2016 and received $336,000 in referral fees for laboratory work associated with Medicare patients.

Barrow faces a “significant” prison term when sentenced, the office said.
