Tennessee's labor-management advisory panel has given thumbs down to a bill that would allow employers to opt out of the state's workers' compensation system, despite amendments by the author to beef up minimum benefits in the measure.
Sen. Mark Green's Senate Bill 721 was scheduled for a hearing before the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee on Tuesday, but the panel did not get to the measure before it adjourned. A companion House measure introduced by Rep. Jeremy Durham, HB 997, is on the House Consumer and Human Relations Subcommittee calendar for a meeting today.
