A bill to make it easier for first responders to qualify for mental health benefits passed in a watered-down form on the last day of the Ohio legislative session.
House Bill 308, if signed by the governor, would establish a fund to cover workers' compensation benefits for post-traumatic stress disorder. But lawmakers did not provide a source of revenue for the fund.
Instead, the bill requires the state to hire an actuarial firm to study what would be needed to pay the PTSD benefits, according to the final version of the bill and a first responder news website.
