Gov. Chris Christie has nominated an attorney in the midst of a state Senate campaign to be a workers’ compensation judge.

Robert R. Prisco was nominated to preside over Riverside and Burlington, while James B. Arsenault Jr. was selected to arbitrate cases in Upper Township and Cape May.

Both face Senate confirmation.

Prisco, a Republican, is considered a “heavy underdog” in his race for the open 7th District seat of retiring GOP Sen. Diane Allen against Democratic Assemblyman Troy Singleton, the Burlington County Times reported.

Prisco, a solo practitioner in Riverside, lost to Singleton in 2015. He has not officially dropped out of the race even though his confirmation would preclude him from serving in the Senate.

Arsenault is the county counsel for Cape May County and is the chief legal representative for the Board of Chosen Freeholders, and to all county departments and elected officials. He graduated from Villanova University’s Charles Widget School of Law, his LinkedIn page says.
