The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health fined Safeway $182,000 for violations at its warehouse in Tracy.
The agency commonly known as Cal/OSHA said it cited 27 violations that it said exposed about 1,700 workers at the grocer's largest warehouse in the country to serious risk of injury.
Cal/OSHA said the company failed to identify and fix issues related to lifting, carrying and moving heavy items and did not provide effective training to supervisors or workers on the hazards.
