Insurance companies and patients are seeking more than $181 million in restitution from the conspirators behind the kickback scheme at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach, but prosecutors said in court filings that they have little evidence to support the demands.
At the moment, the government can prove about $12 million in actual losses resulting from the kickback scheme, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said in a brief filed Friday. The document outlines the office's position on restitution ahead of a hearing scheduled for June 29.
