California labor inspectors are making fewer inspections, but are uncovering more violations with each inspection conducted.
The Bureau of Field Enforcement reduced the number of inspections it conducts every year since 2011. The bureau conducted 2,424 inspections in the 2015-16 fiscal year, about a quarter of the 9,201 inspections performed in 2011.
Over the same period, the number of violations uncovered during these investigations dropped by more than half, to 2,072 from 4,769. However, the ratio of violations-to-inspections increased to 85.5% in 2016, the most recent fiscal year...
