Iowa this week became the sixth state to put its stamp of approval on the burgeoning gig economy, classifying more workers as independent contractors. The Iowa bill offers a couple of twists that other states have not adopted, though, including a requirement that skilled workers who need a license must obtain one.
Senate File 2257, which was sent to the governor on Monday, also states that it is retroactive, potentially absolving marketplace contractors such as Uber and Handy of liability from lawsuits by workers.
