In an attempt to reduce amputations on the job, the federal work safety agency has launched a program targeting businesses in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.
A "surge of planned inspections" of workplaces in those states will see Occupational Safety and Health Administration personnel visiting employers that use heavy machinery. Inspectors will evaluate operations, working conditions, record-keeping, and safety and health programs, OSHA said.
In an announcement issued Tuesday, OSHA said the inspections would begin "immediately."
