In an age of school shootings and an increase in assaults against teachers, Nebraska is poised to become one of first states to enhance workers' compensation benefits for educators who are injured by acts of violence.
Bill 1186 has moved quickly through the state's unicameral Legislature this year and is expected to reach a floor vote within the next few days. It would provide assaulted teachers their full salaries while they're waiting for comp benefits to kick in.
