A pharmaceutical sales representative's guilty plea this week to charges that she bribed physicians to prescribe opioids is another black eye for a drug industry facing mounting accusations that it has fueled the U.S. addiction crisis.
Michelle Breitenbach, 38, a Middletown, New Jersey, sales representative for Insys Therapeutics, pleaded guilty to participating in a scheme to bribe doctors into prescribing fentanyl, a synthetic drug that has been called one of the most potent and expensive opioids on the market, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said.
