The South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission announced that Avery B. Wilkerson Jr. will retire, effective Sept. 15.
Wilkerson has served as a commissioner since June 2008 when he was appointed by then-Gov. Mark Sanford. He was reappointed by then-Gov. Nikki Haley in 2014 and reappointed for a third time in 2020 by Gov. Henry McMaster.
Coincidentally, Wilkerson started his career as an analyst in the commission’s claims department after graduating from Newberry College in 1978.
