Firefighter Body Measurements Will Aid Safety-Equipment Design

Researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have developed a database of firefighter body measurements intended to help with the design of firefighter safety equipment. The database, which NIOSH called the first of its kind, includes 71 body dimension measurements, collected using 3-D scanning techniques as well as more traditional methods.  The information will be available to fire apparatus and equipment manufacturers to use in updating the designs of their seat belts, fire truck cabs, gloves, boots, seats, self-contained breathing apparatus carrying strap...
