The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania upheld an award of benefits to a corrections officer for his mental and physical injuries after being assaulted by two inmates.

Facts: Michael Marzano worked for the County of Allegheny as a corrections officer. In July 2018, an inmate allegedly attacked him with a shank. A second inmate then joined in the attack.
Two of Marzano’s colleagues came to his aid. The officers were later awarded medals of valor for their service relating to the incident.
