A former police officer who claimed to have suffered a work-related injury but was then allegedly spotted working out at a gym has been charged with perjury and fraud.
Robert Zeidenberg, of Woodbridge, Connecticut, who resigned from the Madison Police Department in November, was arrested Tuesday, the Hartford Courant reports, quoting a statement from the state's Division of Criminal Justice.
The 48-year-old claimed to have suffered an injury July 3 that was so severe he was unable to drive. However, following a complaint, an investigation was launched and he was seen working out at a gym, lifting heavy weights, the division said.
Zeidenberg, who joined the force in 2012, is due in New Haven Superior Court on Dec. 23. He faces a maximum 20 years in jail.
