The arrival of triple-digit temperatures in Texas prompted the state Division of Workers’ Compensation to remind employers of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s National Emphasis Program to protect workers from heat-related hazards and injuries.
Under the heat injury and illness prevention program, OSHA compliance specialists conduct indoor and outdoor heat-related workplace inspections. The enforcement efforts will be carried out in more than 70 high-risk industries when the heat index is 80 degrees or higher.
