The Texas Division of Workers' Compensation is accepting public comment on proposed rules that would end the “remarriage penalty” for spouses of certain peace officers killed on the job.
The rules are in keeping with House Bill 2503, which was passed by the state Legislature in 2019. Previous state law allowed continued death benefits for spouses of some first responders, but not all.
