California will take baby steps toward the use of debit cards to pay workers' compensation benefits, but might expand their use later once it is shown that injured workers' won't be stuck with exorbitant fees, the chairman of the senate's labor committee said.
The Senate Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations on Wednesday unanimously passed Senate Bill 880, by Sen. Richard Pan, that would allow the State Fund to launch a pilot project using debit cards to pay temporary disability benefits.
