Financial pressures from the Affordable Care Act are leading to more physician dispensing of drugs, according to an article in a new quarterly report from Mitchell.
“Reimbursement rates for Medicare have dropped anywhere from 35% to 40%,” Mitch Freeman, chief clinical officer at Mitchell, wrote in the article. “Considering half of physicians are in private practice and may be more sensitive to reimbursement changes, it makes office dispensing an attractive source of revenue to offset those declining rates.”
