Town Bans Flip-Flop Footwear to Prevent Worker Injuries

Monday, June 17, 2019 | 0

The town of Greenwich is looking to prevent worker injuries by banning city workers from wearing flip-flop sandals.

The policy, which took effect this month, applies to flip-flop or slide sandals, the Greenwich Time reported. Sandals that are secured around the ankle or the back of the foot are acceptable.

Workers exempted from the ban include lifeguards, swim instructors and staff at camps the town operates.

Mary Pepe, the town’s director of human resources, said the ban wasn’t in response to a particular incident, but was intended to improve safety and avoid workers’ comp claims.

Town officials said the footwear is a tripping hazard.
