New Pharmacies Sprouted as Dispensing Reforms Were Adopted, WCRI Says

Researchers studying the impact of legislation that aimed to control the costs of repackaged drugs observed new pharmacies opening in the state that dispensed large numbers of compounded medications and pricey topical painkillers.  The study by the Workers Compensation Research Institute concluded that the reform legislation, House Bill 1846, hit the mark after its adoption in late 2014: Physician-dispensed drugs accounted for 34% of workers’ comp prescriptions in Pennsylvania in 2014, but fell, to 11%, of prescriptions after the bill was adopted.
