A bitter personal dispute that spilled over into the halls of the Louisiana Legislature may have torpedoed a bill that aimed to ensure that guaranty associations have access to the collateral posted by employers that purchased large-deductible workers’ compensation policies.
Despite unanimous support in the state Legislature, Gov. John Bel Edwards vetoed House Bill 609 earlier this month. Time ran out before lawmakers could muster an override attempt on Friday, the last day of the regular 2018 legislative session.
