NATL. - Erie Promotes HR VP to Executive Vice President

Erie Insurance has promoted Dionne Wallace Oakley to executive vice president of human resources and strategy, the carrier said in a press release.

NM - Governor Makes Appointment to Advisory Council
New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez appointed Tara Bonestroo to the state’s Advisory Council on Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Disease Disablement.
Bonestroo is a partner in Bonestroo and Sons Dairy in Portales. She will fill a vacancy for a business representative on the advisory council.
The advisory council recommends rules and regulations relating to the state’s workers’ compensation system. Although the council’s role is largely advisory, it has authority to appoint members to the panel that approves independent medical examination providers.
AK - WCB Reviewing Court Cases at Jan. 11 Meeting
Members of the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Board will discuss 2017 state Supreme Court and Workers’ Compensation Appeals Commission decisions during a Jan. 11 meeting.
Board members will also discuss the 2018 year-to-date budget during the meeting. The agenda also includes a one-hour public comment period.
The board meets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Division of Workers’ Compensation office, 3301 Eagle St., room 208, Anchorage.

ID - Industrial Commission Posts Draft Audit Guidelines for Review
The Idaho Industrial Commission posted to its website draft audit guidelines for public review and comment.
The commission conducts periodic audits to ensure carriers and self-insured employers are complying with claims adjustment requirements.
Draft guidelines outline types of claims that will be reviewed during the audits, including all total permanent disability claims and fatality claims, and a sample of other claims. The commission will examine whether payments were timely, whether payers correctly calculated benefits owed to injured workers and whether they’re promptly reporting .

A carpenter convicted of workers' compensation fraud for working while collecting benefits must reimburse the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation more than $23,000, the BWC announced Friday.

Ernest Shawn Baker, 45, of Pomeroy, must serve five years of probation as well. He pleaded guilty Nov. 29 to a fifth-degree felony count of workers' compensation fraud.
Jim Wernecke, the director of BWC's special investigations department, said Baker went back to work as a carpenter soon after his injury in 2014.
