Workers' compensation bills aren't getting much attention in the Florida Legislature this year, but one measure that doesn't mention comp at all could save money for injured workers.
House Bill 1147 would, for the first time, allow patients and their lawyers to request medical records in electronic form. Historically, hospitals and doctors in Florida have sent the records in paper form, via mail. The state workers' compensation statute lets providers charge 50 cents per page, plus postage and handling — an expense that can take a bite out of a claimant's benefit...
