Veterans' Club Charged With Lapsed Comp Coverage

Thursday, August 1, 2019 | 0

A 74-year-old watering hole for veterans in Brockport, and its operator, have been charged with multiple counts of failing to carry workers' compensation insurance in the summer of 2014, a local newspaper reported.

The well-known Brockport Army & Navy Club, which opened in 1945, operated for more than a month without comp coverage, which resulted this week in 39 misdemeanor charges against the club and 35 against the operator, Joseph Gradizzi, authorities said.

Gradizzi allegedly did not have workers’ compensation insurance for the 35-day period and was not exempted as a self-insurer, according to the criminal complaint. Each day's violation constitutes a separate offense.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry found that the club was in violation, according to the report, which did not say why it took five years for the charges to be filed.

The club built a new structure in 2016 and opened it with a celebration, the newspaper reported.
