Trench Violations Bring $58K in OSHA Fines

A New Jersey contractor faces $58,800 in penalties after an inspector for the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration spotted workers in an 8-foot deep trench with no protective system to protect them from cave-ins. OSHA issued citations for one willful and one serious violation to Yannuzzi Group of Kinnelon, New Jersey after the Oct. 30 inspection of a job site on the Sussex Turnpike in Randolph. OSHA said a Randolph Township Division of Sewer and Water employee had delivered trench protection to the company, but it wasn't being used later when OSHA inspectors visited the site...
