An inspection by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration of a Colorado grain storage company resulted in $51,920 in citations for safety violations.
OSHA said it investigated High Country Elevators Inc. in Dove Creek on March 15 as part of its regional emphasis program for grain handling facilities. Its inspector found one employee inside a storage bin alone shoveling sunflower seeds with no protective measures in place or another employee present to stop the elevator in case of an emergency.
